Here is Snape giving Lily something he found: something he hoped she might find useful, like,
“Here Lily, *snort*, I found this for you, *snort*. You’ve run out of frogs legs in Potions, right?” And then, let’s just say Lily is stumped as how to respond.

Haha! I made a huge mistake by telling my mom the friendship between Severus and Lily: she stared at me, her mouth in a small “o”, and then, with her hands clapping to her cheeks, she cried, “how adorable!” My mom is even more of a “Jane-Austin-Romantic” than I am, and thus is dangerously susceptible to swooning when she fancies something “sweetly-RO-MAN-TIQUE”. My mom and I were in the kitchen, and after I related to her the Snape-Lily relationship, I was forced to hear her “tsk” and sigh for the next hour as she prepared dinner.

“That POOR man,” she exclaimed and “tsk’ed” once more.

“ Mom, Lily…jeez, she just hung out with him! They had some stuff in common, that’s all!” I desperately hoped I would be able to smother her rose-colored mood.

“OH!! Amy, you need to draw one of your Harry Potter cartoons for this! Make it funny, you know? Like, have him attempting to, unsuccessfully mind you… have him give her a present: a sign of his affection. But the gift would be something odd, like him!”

I had to admit then that my mom had something, so I excused myself, and rushed straight to the drawing board. Let me tell you, my mom loved it in the end: she thought it was very romantic.
